Country Manager, Oil Field Equipment, India & South Asia, Baker Hughes

Baker Hughes, established in 1907, is one of the world’s largest oil field services companies with 2018 revenues at ~$23bn and employee strength of ~67000. Shashank is Executive, Business Operations (Country Manager, India) at Baker Hughes. He leads the India geomarket for Oil Field Equipment (OFE) business.

Shashank has the reputation of a growth leader by virtue of achieving an order of magnitude growth from levels of ~$20mn p.a. revenue (when Shashank moved to India as sales leader for the upstream business in 2010) to levels of ~$200mn+.

With almost 2 decades of oilfield experience, Shashank has spent his last 12 years at GE (now Baker Hughes). His first two years at GE were spent honing his commercial intensity on the ‘experienced commercial leadership program’ (ECLP). Shashank got his degree in petroleum engineering from IIT- ISM Dhanbad and completed his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB). Shashank has worked in field roles, project management & business analysis before his long stint in sales & marketing and business management. He brings deep domain expertise in oil & gas industry as well as commercial processes, account management, dealing with PSUs and B2B sales.

Shashank grew up in a small industrial town called Sindri and has lived in the cities of Dhanbad, Bangalore, Duliajan, Delhi, Singapore and Perth before finally settling down in Mumbai with his wife Pranavi – an executive Coach – and two beautiful daughters: Bhavisha (12) and Shambhavi (7)

Shashank tries to give back to the energy sector by serving on various industry technical forums as advisor or as speaker. He is on the board of SPEMumbai for the last 5 years. He takes occasional guest lectures in engineering and management institutes for energy sector professionals. He takes special interest in coaching and mentoring young talent in the energy sector. Shashank counts as his strengths his ability to collaborate and work within a matrix, strike industry partnerships, clarity of thought, solution mindset and P&L leadership.

Outside of work, Shashank actively volunteers in social impact initiatives. He is the elected secretary of his 100+ member cooperative housing society for the last 7 years…a mini P&L of sorts. He is also a member of the Apex society of his residential complex of 800+ members…where he hones his skills of collaborative working across a diverse set of people with varying interests.

Additionally, he has actively supported setting up a start-up in the sustainable  energy space called Ideas4energy – with his wife as one of the founder directors. This venture is already looking at smart, energy efficient solutions in the lighting space (LED), smart fans, e-charging, solar, training etc.
